Dear CALL members:

As we cling to the last days of Summer and prepare ourselves for the Fall, we are reminded that the remainder of 2018 will bring much activity. Soon enough the holiday season will be upon us, and with that the requisite Winter weather. In the spirit of savoring the rest of the Summer, we bring you the Summer 2018 issue of the CALL Bulletin, the final issue for the 2017-2018 CALL year.

This issue contains several conference reviews from CALL grantees. For example, Jesse Bowman shares his experiences at CALICon18. Eugene Giudice provides a report on his time at the 2018 Special Libraries Association conference. Finally, Lyonette Louis-Jacque discusses the “Law Books: History & Connoisseurship” course she took through Yale Law School. In addition to the grantee reports, this issue contains the year-end committee reports from each of the CALL committees.

We hope that you find this issue informative and that you enjoy the rest of your Summer!

Hello, CALL. Rounding out this publication year’s issues, we have the spring Bulletin here for you.

This go-around we feature reviews of the ABA Tech Show by Matt Timko and AALL’s Competitive Intelligence Foundations program by Sally Baker. We also meet new member Sarah Sherman and get a recap of CALL’s work with the Greater Chicago Food Depository (which, to editorialize, looks like was a blast to volunteer for back in February). And of course, the general association news and business that you need is collected here as well.

This issue of the CALL Bulletin commemorates CALL’s 70th anniversary. CALL was formed in February 1947 and became an AALL chapter that June. Pieces in this issue are both retrospective and prospective.

A letter of congratulations from AALL President Ronald Wheeler kicks us off, then we have a piece in which six past presidents offer thoughts and reflections on CALL. Sharon Nelson chronicles the history of the CALL website, Matt Timko proposes three ways for academic libraries to maintain relevance, and there’s a piece about the development of the reading room at D’Angelo Law Library on the cusp of the digital revolution in legal research. The summer has wound down, so we’re happy to present you with the summer 2016 issue of the CALL Bulletin. And what a summer it was. Hosting the AALL Annual Meeting in Chicago gave many of us the chance to extend the collegiality and hospitality that we as CALL members enjoy on a regular basis. It’s difficult to believe that fall lasts until December 21 when we’ve already experienced sub-zero temperatures here in Chicago, but here we are. Perhaps this issue of the CALL Bulletin will be a pleasant reminder of warmer times.

In fact, this issue comprises our final recap of the AALL proceedings this summer with two grantee reports from Heidi Kuehl and Matthew Timko, a recap of Cool Tools Café from Debbie Ginsberg, and an item on the award of Legislator of the Year to U.S. representative Mike Quigley at the beginning of August. Spring 2016, Bulletin

Spring time in Chicago. Hooray!  We’ve had snow and rain, and it’s been very cold, but I have seen shoots of leaves and flowers blooming, so we’re leaving behind the old and bringing in the new.  Like the weather, the CALL Bulletin is changing. This is my last column as co-editor and the end of my three-year term as co-chair of the Bulletin Committee.

I have enjoyed shepherding our AALL award-winning newsletter to its hybrid WordPress blog and PDF formats. Since the format change with the Fall 2014 CALL Bulletin issue, we’ve had over 15,000 views, with a peak of 2,149 views in January 2016. The art in CALL libraries and Chicago International theme issues were very popular as well as our AALL in Philly supplemental  summer issue. And a project that I started with co-editor Lindsey Carpino and Bulletin Historian, Annie Mentkowski, is coming to fruition. Winter 2016

Happy New Year, everyone, and welcome to the Winter 2016 issue of the CALL Bulletin! This issue has something for everyone. CALL elections are coming, and we have published the 2016-2017 slate of candidates with photos and bio statements. Thanks to Joanne Kiley, Clare Willis, Tom Gaylord, Jill Meyer, Therese Clarke Arado, and Lindsey Carpino for running for office. We appreciate your willingness to serve on the CALL Executive Board!

The Winter 2016 issue is also a special “Chicago International”-themed issue of the CALL Bulletin! Guest editors, Matthew Timko and Sharon Nelson, introduce us to great pieces on CALL member travels abroad, cultural heritage museums, ethnic foods, unique collections, people, and other foreign, comparative, and international legal (FCIL) resources in Chicago.

Bulletin, Fall 2015

Fall is officially here. It is time to cozy up with the Fall issue of the CALL Bulletin, while you enjoy your Pumpkin Spice Latte (made with real Pumpkin). This is a very exciting issue as we welcome new members to the Bulletin Committee and as regular columnists: Heather Hummons, Jill Meyer, Clanitra Stewart Nejdl, Stacia Stein, LeighAnne Thompson. Juanita Harrell will be writing a court librarian column. We also welcome Philip Johnson’s help with editing.  And Annie Mentkowski as our Bulletin Historian. Summer 2015 AALL Supplement

In case you missed it, this year’s AALL Annual Meeting & Conference took place in Philadelphia from July 18 – July 21.  As promised, our correspondents were on location in Philadelphia to represent CALL and to report back to our members who were not able to make it to the conference this year.

This supplement to the 2015 Summer Issue of the CALL Bulletin serves to highlight Philadelphia, the conference itself, and the achievements and activities of our members on a national stage.  As always, CALL was well-represented at the annual meeting, with presentations, awards, and a wealth of new friends to show for it!
