As all Chicagoans know, Summer is the briefest and most precious season of the year.  The annual Summer issue of the Bulletin, in turn, is regarded by many as the sweetest of all Bulletins.  As such, I invite all of you to adjust your beach chairs, reapply sunscreen, and settle in for Issue 236 of the award winning CALL Bulletin. Welcome to the Spring Issue of the CALL Bulletin, which we are finally able to type with a straight face, thanks to the rapidly-improving weather! We would first like to congratulate Todd Ito, Diana Koppang and Konya Lafferty–the newly-elected CALL Board members for the 2015-2016 term. We have a very exciting and colorful Spring issue of the Bulletin, featuring works of art from CALL libraries. Thank you to those who were able to share these pieces with us.

Fall 2014 – Letter From the Editors

Lyonette Louis-JacquesDear colleagues,

Yes indeed, there have been some changes around here at the CALL Bulletin! We are delighted to unveil our new online format, which promises to make your contributions easier to find and link to, in a display that we hope you will find attractive, all at a lower cost for our membership.

We’re grateful to Emily Barney and Debbie Ginsberg of Chicago-Kent, Kevin McClurewho brought a lot of brainstorming and hard work to this transition. The design you’re viewing owes much to their skill and vision, which they are now patiently working to pass along to your humble editors. We also appreciate the willingness of the CALL Board to fearlessly travel this road with us, even in those times when we weren’t always able to show them exactly where we thought we were going. Finally, we bid thanks and a fond farewell to Mary Chase, our cheerful collaborator in bringing the CALL Bulletin to press for the past several years in our previous format. Summer 2014 Letter from the Editors

Editors’ note: This is an online facsimile of the Summer 2014 issue of the CALL Bulletin, which was originally published in PDF format.

It’s hard to believe summer is almost over! Classes have started for some of us and the students are back in school. For others, the students have left to return to school. Endings and beginnings combined on all fronts.

In that vein, we would like to thank this year’s members of the CALL Bulletin Committee for their help with editing and writing articles – in particular Lindsey Carpino, Kara Dunn, and Michael Verderame. And we look forward to working with the new Bulletin volunteers! Continue reading Summer 2014 Letter from the Editors

Spring 2014 Editors’ Letter

Editors’ note: This is an online facsimile of the Spring 2014 issue of the CALL Bulletin, which was originally published in PDF format.

Dear Colleagues,

The great Chicago columnist  Mike Royko argued that instead of the official city motto, Urbs in Horto, or “City in a Garden,” a more fitting tagline for Chicago would be Ubi Est Mea?, “Where Is Mine?” But for most of the time since we last wrote you, our unofficial rallying cry has been Ubi Est Vernum? – “Where Is Spring?”

We can’t account for the whereabouts of the missing season, but we can finally put the Spring issue of the CALL Bulletin in your hands, if that helps any. This issue attests to the ability of CALL members to stay productive through even the most challenging conditions. Dear Colleagues,

Winter is here! As I’m writing this, we’ve had our first real snow fall. I love fresh snow! Everything seems new, magical, and possible then. But we leave footsteps of the past year behind us and usher in a new year. Snow is endings and new beginnings. So it is with this issue of the CALL Bulletin. In the following articles, we welcome new colleagues, discuss new experiences, celebrate leadership, and mourn the passing of a dear colleague. Continue reading Winter 2014 Editors’ Letter
