Award for Outstanding In-House Publication

The Outstanding In-House Publication Award is given to an individual or group who created in-house library materials (print or online) that are user and staff oriented, are relevant for law libraries, and are outstanding in quality.

2020 Agnes and Harvey Reid Honoree: Diana Koppang

The Agnes and Harvey Reid Award for Outstanding Contribution to Law Librarianship is presented annually to librarians who have provided outstanding service to the chapter during the previous year or for contribution to law librarianship.

The Chicago Association of Law Libraries honors Keith Ann Stiversion with the 2019 Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Law Librarianship Award.

When Keith Ann retired in 2018, it marked the end of a decades-long career that spanned roles, geography, and countless revolutions in the way information is distributed.  

Through it all, Keith has remained, as the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin once described her, in a turn of phrase that made all of us cringe, “One librarian who doesn’t keep quiet.”  We are all fortunate that she didn’t keep quiet, and we should now raise our own voices to thank her for that service. Chapman & Cutler wins In-House Publication Award

The winner of this year’s award for outstanding in-house publication is the Chapman & Cutler Research Services team.  

They used a graphic of a book flipping open into a computer that was created by the firm’s marketing department and adapted it to make promotional logos for their events and newsletters.  They made attractive, professional-looking signs.

The Grants and Awards committee was especially impressed with their big Bingo card. Attorneys could complete some of the basic research and library tasks on the card to try to earn Bingo. Continue reading Chapman & Cutler wins In-House Publication Award

Margaret Schilt Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

The Chicago Association of Law Libraries honors Margaret Schilt with the 2019 Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Law Librarianship Award.

Margaret Schilt is retiring this June after 19 years as a librarian at the D’ Angelo Law Library at the University of Chicago.  The Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting tribute to her career of active and engaged service to our profession. Julie Pabarja Receives Agnes and Harvey Reid Award

The Chicago Association of Law Libraries honors Julie Pabarja with the  2019 Agnes and Harvey Reid Award for Outstanding Contribution to Law Librarianship.

This year, CALL gives our award for outstanding contribution to law librarianship to Julie Pabarja.  We are recognizing her dedication and the passion she exudes for the profession, as well as the organization. May 2018 Business Meeting Roundup

The meeting was held at Wildfire (159 W. Erie Street) on Thursday  May 10, 2018.

CALL President Clare Willis opened the meeting by welcoming the membership. There were 76 attendees at the meeting. Clare also summarized everything that CALL accomplished this past year: CALL awarded $5000 in grants, posted 17 positions, advocated for preserving net neutrality, established a professional development task force, hosted several continuing education events, and raised $1100 for local service organizations. She also mentioned that the Strategic Planning Committee was still working on a plan, but that the Board recently approved the committee’s proposed new mission statement: “CALL supports legal information professionals through advocacy, education, and engagement.” Clare also introduced and thanked the meeting sponsor, Wolters Kluwer. CALL Awards Representative Mike Quigley Legislator of the Year

In August, CALL leadership visited the offices of Representative Mike Quigley to award him Legislator of the Year on the basis of his “outstanding leadership and commitment to open access to government information.” Rep. Quigley has represented the 5th Congressional District of Illinois since August, 2009 and is well known for his commitment to open government.
