Committee Projects

The 2023-24 CALL Board charged the Archives Committee with exploring cloud storage options for the organization’s digital media assets, such as digital photos taken during CALL events and Zoom recordings of CALL events (as our Zoom account was approaching its maximum allowable storage level).

The Committee landed on Google One, which can be tied to the existing CALL Gmail account, for the cloud storage solution. CALL President Mandy Lee downloaded all Zoom recordings from the start of 2020 through March 2022 into CALL’s Google Drive account, which freed up space for storage in our Zoom account.

Looking ahead, next year we will be aiming to post our videos on a CALL YouTube account with a “private” listing and making them available on a members-only page of the CALL website. Keep an eye out for more information on that in the upcoming CALL business year.

Thanks to our committee members and to Board Liaison Todd Hillmer for their great work this year!

Coming Soon: CALL YouTube channel

The CALL Archives Committee has been working with the CALL Board on making our past video presentations (such as CALL Continuing Education events) available to CALL members without the use of a passcode. We are exploring the possibility of posting our videos on YouTube with a “private” listing and then posting them on a page of the CALL site that’s only accessible to current CALL members. The YouTube channel is not available yet, but keep your eyes on the CALL Bulletin and the listserv to find out when it has been set up and activated.

In the meantime, did you know that links to archived Continuing Education presentation videos are available on the current CALL site? Many of the archived recordings are passcode protected, but the recordings of presentations that were conducted by CALL members don’t require a passcode.

CALL Archives Committee 2021-2022 Annual Report

The 2021-2022 CALL Archives Committee was comprised of Committee co-chairs Brittany Adams and Lucy Robbins, as well as Committee members, Claire Toomey Durkin and Joe Mitzenmacher.  We tried to find material for the 75th anniversary, but due to a lack of staffing at our libraries and other difficulties, it could not be completed.  The COVID pandemic continued to be an issue in our work on this committee, and thus, this committee was mostly inactive.

CALL Archives Committee 2019-2020 Annual Report

The 2019-2020 CALL Archives Committee was comprised of Committee co-chairs Brittany Adams and Lucy Robbins, as well as Committee members, Patricia Scott, Jill Meyer and Matt Timko.  Joe Mitzenmacher served as board liaison.

The CALL archives were moved back to the city from Northern Illinois University to Loyola University Chicago.  The main effort this year was to get the new archives set up at Loyola and to make a plan to digitize the files.  The CALL board authorized the committee to purchase file cabinets to house the archives, but with the disruption of the year due to COVID-19, we were not yet able to do so.  During the 2020-2021 year, we plan to continue to set up the archives and begin the digitization process using the CALL hard drive and/or CALL Google account.

CALL Archives Committee 2018-2019 Annual Report

The 2018-2019 CALL Archives Committee was comprised of Committee co-chairs Matt Timko and Brittany Adams, as well as Committee members Anne Danberg, Pat Sayre-McCoy, and Clanitra Stewart Nejdl. Board Member Annie Mentkowski served as liaison.

The main effort and accomplishment of the Committee for this year was relocating the Archives from Northern Illinois University, which is more than 60 miles away from CALL/ABA Headquarters, to a more centralized location in the city. Continue reading CALL Archives Committee 2018-2019 Annual Report

Archives Come Back to Loyola

After 10 years at the Northern Illinois University (NIU) College of Law, the CALL archives have returned to the Chicago city limits. The archives—which include administrative records, publications, and photographs from CALL events over the years—will now return to the library at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Making the round trip, the archives moved from Loyola in 2007 due to a lack of storage space.  The Archives Committee Chair at the time, Therese Clarke Arado, offered to house the archives at NIU, where they remained until September of this year.

CALL Archives Committee 2017-2018 Annual Report

The 2017-2018 CALL Archives Committee was comprised of Committee co-chairs Patricia Sayre-McCoy and Clanitra Stewart Nejdl, as well as Committee members Brittany Adams and Matt Timko. This year, the Committee focused its efforts on determining the best path forward for the digitization of the CALL Archives. As part of this process, the Committee provided an updated inventory of the contents of the CALL Archives to the CALL Executive Board. Additionally, the Committee considered whether there are sufficient “in-house” resources to support the digitization of the Archives or whether the assistance of a third-party company would be needed. The Committee also continued work on a plan for the possible digitization of just the photos within the CALL archives.

At the 2017 MAALL, LLAW, MichALL, MALL, and CALL Joint Annual Meeting in October 2017, the CALL Archives was represented in a panel discussion entitled “Preserving Our Histories, Telling Our Stories: What’s in Your Chapter Archives?”. During this panel discussion, Committee Co-Chair Clanitra Stewart Nejdl shared information about the history, content, and policies of the CALL Archives. Throughout the year, materials were added to the CALL Archives as they were received from CALL members.
