2015 AALL Business Skills Clinic Attendee Report

There may have been a time, a long time ago, when all librarians had to worry about was “technical competency.” If they had good skills, knew their sources, work would come their way because, well, they were the librarian, the keeper of knowledge and the passkey to the sources of wisdom. Summer Institute of the Association for Collaborative Leadership

Boston, Massachusetts is like Chicago in that, no matter how many times you visit, there is always something new to discover, something new to learn. I had the opportunity, thanks to a CALL travel grant, to learn something new by attending the Summer Institute of the Association for Collaborative Leadership (ACL) in Boston. The purpose of the ACL is to promote and support higher education partnerships through professional development, resource sharing, and program enhancement. Each summer the ACL holds The Institute on Collaboration in Higher Education. The Institute provides a unique opportunity to learn from leaders in consortia, and other collaboration-based non-profit organizations. Managing My eBrief is a five-minute video, created using Camtasia Studio 8 software, which concisely explains to DLA Piper attorneys how to use the law firm’s eBrief platform, from signing in, adding and organizing sources, and setting email alerts.

Making the video clearly required detailed planning and precise choreography of scripting, audio, and visual screenshots. The video is easy to follow for users who may not be familiar with the eBrief tool.
