As a kid, all I ever wanted to be was CALL President.
“Mom, Dad–I need the new edition of The Bluebook.”
“No, I most certainly cannot come out to play. I have to practice Shepardizing. Lose this address.”
“You know what, Grandma–you keep this birthday money. It won’t do me any good to get used to having it.”
Then you grow up, see your dreams realized, and find out that it’s never how you thought it would be. Case in point, here are a few things they don’t teach you in CALL President School:Continue reading President’s Letter→
This year, CALL is turning 75 years old. As we all know, the traditional gift for a 75th anniversary is a diamond, but the lesser-known tradition for 75th Anniversaries of law library organizations is being on a boat–the bigger the better. And so, on a beautiful evening in June, CALL members new and old gathered on the deck of the Columbia Yacht Club to celebrate the organization that has meant so much to so many of us over the years.Continue reading In Celebration of 75 Years of CALL→
On May 18, 2022, AALL President (now Immediate Past President), Diane Rodriguez, in Chicago for work, spent half a day with CALL members Scott Vanderlin, Carrie Port, Jean Wenger, and Mandy Lee. While Debbie and I have been offering Word Workshops in our first year Legal Writing curriculum for 5+ years, this new guide was designed to focus on the resources offered for just one major assignment, breaking down each section to match the skills I show in my in-person workshops.
The 2021-2022 CALL Archives Committee was comprised of Committee co-chairs Brittany Adams and Lucy Robbins, as well as Committee members, Claire Toomey Durkin and Joe Mitzenmacher. We tried to find material for the 75th anniversary, but due to a lack of staffing at our libraries and other difficulties, it could not be completed. The COVID pandemic continued to be an issue in our work on this committee, and thus, this committee was mostly inactive.
The February meeting was attended by about 75 people via Zoom. President Jamie Sommer opened the meeting welcoming people and announcing that this year is the 75th anniversary of CALL. We were the 3rd Chapter and started with less than 20 people. We now have over 200 members. A committee has been formed to plan events to celebrate the anniversary. There will be networking after the meeting and thanks to Bridge Nelson of Lexis for our door prizes which were raffled off at the end.
