An Autumn tarot pull

It’s the time of year when we head inside (or most of us do, anyway!), and we end up interacting more than some of us might want. Perhaps that’s why these oracle and tarot pulls came up with communication.

Sam the Sandown Clown, a potentially mechanical-looking creature in front of a stylized outhouse; the card says SAM THE SANDOWN CLOW, Sandown, Isle of Wight, May 1973; Screech! Invitations or proposition: Communicate with the tools you have and seek connection in strange new places.

Sam the Sandown Clown, a cryptid seen but once and originally from the Isle of Wight, reminds us to screech! Or at any rate, to communicate with whatever tools we’ve got, and to connect in whatever odd places we may find. Is the Thanksgiving table odd? (My family’s definitely is!) Either way, it’s a good reminder to seek out the ways we can come together, even if we might have to figure out what kind of communication works for us.

The Page of Swords likes to get things done. They’re quick, clever, industrious, and they’re going places. On the flip side, this can sometimes lead to being a bit more brash than intended–which is probably something plenty of us have run into, especially when fact-checking at the holidays. The Page of Swords can also symbolize news–which often has to do with communication, just like Sam the Sandown Clown above.

Together, both Sam the Sandown Clown and the Page of Swords remind us to use our skills and our ability to connect–while also taking the time to make sure we don’t end up with foot in mouth syndrome by the time the holidays are over.

A note on the decks

Both decks come from my collection of indie tarot and oracle decks.

Sam the Sandown Clown comes from Eerie Encounters: A Cryptid Oracle Deck, created by Bedlam Arts & Goods (aka Eamon MacNamee).

The Page of Swords comes from Atomic Cat Tarot, created by Wendy Miller.
