The 2021-2022 CALL Placement & Recruitment Committee (“committee”) was comprised of Co-Chairs Todd Ito and Julie Pabarja, Valerie Kropf, Sean Rebstock, and Diana Koppang. Carrie Port was the Board Liaison.
The committee started the year by discussing the committee charge and the initiatives in the CALL Strategic Plan assigned to this committee to handle. The committee agreed to focus on finding opportunities to recruit new librarians into the profession and CALL.
Julie Pabarja was a guest speaker at a law librarianship class at Indiana University on April 4. She shared her job responsibilities and answered the students’ questions on being a law firm librarian and the benefits of being part of an association. She invited the students to attend the CALL business meeting to network with other law librarians and encouraged them to join CALL or AALL as they start their career.
The Placement & Recruitment Committee also participated in the Government, Library, Archives, and Museum (GLAM) Virtual Career Fair hosted by University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s School of Information Sciences on April 6. Diana Koppang, Konya Moss, and Todd Ito participated in a group session answering questions about law libraries and legal information, and then Diana Koppang, Julie Pabarja, Valerie Kropf, and Todd Ito met individually with 12 students. They answered questions about working in law libraries and promoted CALL and AALL and our career resources.
The committee is also tasked with posting job openings on the CALL website and listserv. There was an increase in job postings compared to past years with 36 jobs posted. The committee also followed up with the contact person of postings that have been there for a few months to determine if the position was filled or ongoing. If the position was filled with a non-CALL members, their name was shared with the Membership Committee for outreach.
