CALL Public Relations Committee 2017-2018 Annual Report
During the 2017-2018 business year, Donna Tuke and Jesse Bowman served as co-chairs of Public Relations Committee. In these roles, Donna and Jesse primarily promoted CALL events via the CALL website, Facebook, and Twitter. Tax Deductions for Law Librarians: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
By their very nature, law librarians are intellectually curious. Of course, that’s a good thing as law librarians need to keep abreast of new developments in constantly changing areas of law and the technology that is used to deliver information.
There are opportunities for continuing education at the national, regional, and local levels. At the national level, AALL offers various institutes and webinars in addition to the Annual Meeting. There are from time to time regional law library meetings and conferences. The local chapters also offer meetings and programs that are extremely useful for local resources. The ABA TECHSHOW began 30 years ago. As the then Editor/Publisher of Legal Information Alert, I frequently covered this event for the Alert and other sources.
After a hiatus, I was pleased that I was able to secure a press pass for this year’s event which was held here in Chicago, March 16-19 at the Hilton Chicago.

When it comes to international tax research questions, do your eyes glaze over? Do you run for the hills or hide under your desk? Fear not. This article will help you “fake it ‘til you can make it.” And, in these days of cost-conscious clients, you will be a hero with all the free or low-cost information you find.
While most law librarians and professional researchers have access to fee-based resources, your tax dollars have been working to create some excellent tools. However, these resources are often hidden down that rabbit hole called the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website. The goal of this article is to expose the wealth of international tax information that can be found at the IRS and other government websites, either as a research starting point or to obtain a plain English explanation of a tax issue.
