Each year, the Chicago Association of Law Libraries honors members who have made outstanding contributions to the organization and the profession of law librarianship. CALL members are encouraged to submit nominations for the following annual awards:

  • The Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Law Librarianship is presented annually at the May business meeting to a retired or soon-to-be retired CALL member for their outstanding lifetime achievement in law librarianship.
  • The Award for Outstanding In-House Publication is given to an individual or group who created in-house library materials (print or online) that are user- and staff-oriented, are relevant for law libraries, and are outstanding in quality.

Criteria for each award can be found on the CALL website.

In 2014, the Reid Award was given to Keith Ann Stiverson; the Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement was given to Eloise Vondruska and Julia Wentz; and the Award for Outstanding In-House Publication was given to the John Marshall Law School Library and the IIT Chicago-Kent Law Library. Nominate your deserving CALL colleagues to join these distinguished award recipients!

Please submit nominations for all three of these awards to Maribel Nash, Chair, CALL Grants & Chapter Awards Committee, at m-nash@law.northwestern.edu by March 27, 2015.

Presidents’ Letter

Maribel NashDear All,

It’s hard to believe that the 2013-2014 CALL term has come to an end. Before I pass the President’s Letter to Margaret, I want to say a quick thanks to all of our wonderful committee chairs and committee members for the great work done this year!

Extra special thanks to the outgoing members of the 2013-2014 CALL Board–JoAnn Hounshell, Barry Herbert, and Pam Cipkowski–as well as the continuing Board members–Margaret Schilt, Clare Willis, and Jamie Sommer–for being so generous with every fourth Tuesday morning and spending it with me. I think we did great work! Continue reading Presidents’ Letter

Spring 2014 President’s Letter

As I write, I’m sitting on an airplane flying home from a two-week trip to Thailand and Myanmar. Just in time to escape one last Chicago snow, I traveled to Southeast Asia (in its 90+ degree glory) to accompany a group of Northwestern Law students conducting field research as part of its International Team Project.
During Spring Break, our small group of twenty conducted interviews with legal professionals, government officials, human rights NGOs, animal rights organizations, and financial officers in Bangkok and Yangon, and managed to do some relaxing and sightseeing on Inle Lake and in Bagan along the way.

Winter 2014 President’s Letter

As temperatures get chillier and we enter the holiday season, this is a good time to reflect on the accomplishments of CALL and its members during warmer months!

Since the beginning of the 2013-2014 CALL term, the CALL Board has had the pleasure of meeting with each of the committee chairs to discuss our goals for the year and our plans to move forward with the CALL 2011-2016 Strategic Plan. Many of our committee chairs are first-time chairs, and I’m happy to see that all of the committees have started to make significant strides moving forward on their ambitious agendas.

Halfway into the Strategic Plan, we have made great progress. An annotated version of the CALL Strategic Plan, updated with our progress as of May 2013, is available as an appendix to the Board’s September 2013 minutes. You will continue to receive annual updates on our Strategic Plan at the beginning of every CALL term. Continue reading Winter 2014 President’s Letter

AALL Election News: Congratulations to Keith Ann Stiverson

Congratulations to CALL member Keith Ann Stiverson on her election to the AALL Executive Board!

Keith serves as the Director of the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law Library and has been very active in both CALL and AALL over the years. She recently served on the Task Force on the Federal Depository Library Program and the Government Policy Advisory Group, and as AALL observer to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (now Uniform Law Commission) Drafting Committee on the Uniform Electric Legal Material Act. We are all so grateful for Keith’s efforts to help get UELMA passed.

Keith’s term as AALL President will conclude with the 2016 AALL Annual Meeting right here in Chicago. Congratulations, Keith!
