The Chicago Association of Law Libraries honors Julie Pabarja with the  2019 Agnes and Harvey Reid Award for Outstanding Contribution to Law Librarianship.

This year, CALL gives our award for outstanding contribution to law librarianship to Julie Pabarja.  We are recognizing her dedication and the passion she exudes for the profession, as well as the organization. Julie is always willing to go the extra mile for CALL.

In 1982 the Chicago Association of Law Libraries established the Agnes and Harvey Reid Award to honor individuals who give outstanding service to CALL or who make an outstanding contribution to law librarianship.

The award was named for two people who were long-time friends and generous supporters of both CALL and the American Association of Law Libraries. Although the Reids weren’t law librarians themselves, they had strong ties to the law library world.

Julie epitomizes the standards for this award.  Not only has she served on the executive board, but she has also done a stellar job co-chairing CALL’s continuing education committee. For the past two years Julie has played an integral part in upping CALL‘s continuing education game.  During her time as co-chair the committee has planned and hosted a continuing education program nearly every month. This is no small feat, and it has led to many CALL members learning new skills and growing the profession as a whole.

Aside from being an excellent CALL member, Julie is wonderful colleague. She is always quick with a smile and words of encouragement.  The member who nominated Julie told the committee about an interaction with Julie that I think many CALL members have had:

“Julie probably doesn’t remember this, but I sat with her at my very first CALL Business Meeting. And, even though it was obvious she had friends all over the room and at our table, she made a point of introducing herself, welcoming me to organization, and making sure that everyone else at the table introduced themselves too. This meant so much to me as a rookie law librarian.”

 That story exemplifies how Julie works to grow the network of CALL librarians while also bringing us closer together.
